WinZone Poker is a real-time multiplayer poker platform where players around the world share live tables and global tournaments. Poker is one of the least forgiving things you can build on mobile, every player has to see the same game at the same instant, the deal has to be fair and feel fair, and the money side has to work without getting in the way of a hand, all on phones, over unreliable networks.
We designed and developed the whole platform from the ground up. On the phone it is fully native, built separately for iPhone and Android so each feels right at home, with the core poker logic shared between them. That gives players an app tuned to their device while the rules of the game live in one consistent place.
The hard part in poker is the real-time layer, and that is where most of the engineering went. At the heart of the platform are custom game servers that handle card dealing, table synchronisation and tournament progression at scale, serving thousands of concurrent players across global tournaments with sub-100ms response times. The deal is handled server-side and hand histories are logged on the server so play is verifiable. Dynamic tournament scheduling and skill-based matchmaking keep games filling and fair.
The business runs on it too. Monetization is built in through native Apple and Google in-app purchases for chips and tournament entries, and AdMob with carefully placed ads. Push notifications, analytics and crash reporting keep players engaged and the team informed. And the operators get a comprehensive admin dashboard for real-time monitoring and analytics.
